But first, let’s explore the term “open pollinated” and why that is so important. If you know anything about today’s food production, you know that the vast majority of seeds in this country are GMO (genetically modified organisms), meaning that the farmers are completely reliant on the seed companies to produce new crops each year. GMO seeds are sterile; they won’t produce offspring seeds.
That works out perfect for the seed companies, but not so good for the farmers. Open pollinated seed means the parent plant will produce identical seeds generationally; the natural, recurring means by which plants reproduce. That’s what nature intended, and man has denied. Not in this case, however.
